The trailblazer’s tailor and the granddaddy of outdoor gear, C.C. Filson came to Seattle in 1897, just in time for the Klondike Gold Rush. He opened a booming business outfitting customers with goods for the brutal Alaska winters and designing around their feedback. If he didn’t stock an item, he made it himself! Today, Filson gives back to the US Forest Service, supporting projects like the restoration of the historic Heybrook fire lookout tower.
